And AccuWeather has about 10 days coming with daytime temps above freezing and handful possibly all day/night above freezing. Who knows how that will shake out but doesn't help. At least no major snow to cover it up it looks. Getting old waiting on good ice
I'm thinking I'll be in a boat next week on a finger lake if nothing else.

Friend sent me picture of boat fishing yesterday in front of Oneida Shores. Wide open water at that area

Any word yet on when the hatchery will be opening? I talked to staff at the Salmon River hatchery today, they may start stripping steelhead this Thursday.

I don't think they would put the nets out until after the season closes. I would guess they'll put them out next week at the earliest.

I was just wondering how this weather messes with the runs, hatches, and survival. It is better if most of the fish run at the same time so they can spawn and hatch at the same time. That overloads the system and more would survive in theory.

What triggers walleye to spawn?
Spring Walleyes: Key Locations And Strategies For Success
Walleyes spawn quite early in the year, typically when water temperatures are in the mid 40's. The exact number is going to vary from lake-to-lake, of course, but it will generally be somewhere between 44-48F.

i knew this but i don't know if the amount of daylight might have any affects on the process, good questions to as at the hatchery

You are correct, water temp in mid 40's is when I start looking in the streams around here. Usually start seeing walleyes show up just around dark in small numbers then get larger groups later in the evening, past my bedtime. On the creeks I have near the house there is NO fishing for anything until walleye season opens in May. Makes is tough on the trout fisherman....h2l
