All in all it was a good night.. Caught lots of small ones that we threw back and quite a few keepers...

looks like fun :) I also like the use of the old lantern...i have one just like it from 1952 that i still use, yours looks to be about the same age, they have the year of manufactor stamped on the bottom.

seen a few guys keeping bullheads on this site?? are they good to eat?? kind of a foreign fish to me as i haven't ever caught or seen one personally, although we do have one river and a couple resevoirs with bullheads in saskatchewan.

yeah bullys are great to eat.... i just coat them in flour with a little salt and pepper and fry them up in olive oil... nothin like spring bullys :)

BigRed that old lantern is circa 1963... it was my Great Uncle Johns ( he was a NYS Forest Ranger) ... works great when ya have good mantles :P right Caroga Kid?

Went out on East Caroga for a little BullHeadin' last night with my Pop and CarogaKid fished from 8-12:30 with 7 total... Pop and Caroga 3 each and 2 for me... as soon as CarogaKid wakes his butt up the pics should be posted... the water was like glass, it was warm with little to no wind... what a great night!

Decided to head up to my place to try some Bullhead fishin..The Action wasn't hot and heavy..But at least the fish were bigger than the minnow troutbum has in his other post... ;) :P

Nice bullheads caroga. In answer to your pm to me, it looks like you figured it out, but go to the first post on the thread made by you, and modify the title to read whatever you want. Also modify the title on your new post to ensure the title shows the most recent update. Hope this helps if hadn't already figured it out...

They were hittin everything today... We caught most of them on Floating Rapala's and a few on spoons.... The hot lure of the day was some lure troutbum got on clearance..I don't know what it's called..But I'm sure he does....

its a Bagley Topgun #4 silver/black it imitates smelt very well...
most of the smallies came while trolling 10-20 FOW for Trout

i'd gladly trade a dozen pike lakes along with a trout lake or two for some bass, even though i never even seen a bass let alone caught one. just be nice too have another species to fish for.

Great Smallies there guys, they are such a blast to catch especially on light line. That topgun lure sounds sweet Ill give it a try, where did u find yours?

believe it or not I got it at K-mart in Queensbury on blue light special for $1.99
already paid for itself 8)
yeah those smallies were a blast on a light action rod with 6# vanish :) to bad we didnt hook up with any trout though :(

where the heck is Lake Tanglefoot? I can not find it on any maps...
isn't bass season closed untill June???

Lake Tanglefoot is in the heart of the Adirondack Mountains.... It's a long hike, but just follow the rocks to the big pine tree, and then take a left...But don't go past the maple tree, If you see a fallen Oak tree you went to far.. ;)...Bass season is closed, we were fishing for trout...But the bass were the only thing biting..(they were all released unharmed) That lake should be on the map somewhere... :P

After fishin till dark, We went and got some supper, and made a few stops at the local tavern... Made it out to tangle foot island around 11pm and tried for some bullheads..While waiting for the walleye season to open...

After losing track of time we seen that it was finally Walleye season.. And we were already 15 mins behind schedule... So we switched over to some big shiners and gave it ago.. The walleyes started hammerin hard.. And some drunk guy left the camera on and the batteries went dead.. So that was it for the pictures...
But dont worry I took some pics when I got Home with My girlfriends Camera..

We caught our limit(well what I thought was our limit) 3 a piece in a little over an hour and lost a bunch more that cut our lines...But after coming home and readin the regs I guess we could have kept 5 a piece.. Oh well theirs always tomorrow night.. Right troutbum??

What a great night ..... we may have caught more if we had more bait too.... I love those days when they are hitting so well ya run out!

I will tell ya what I was not impressed with the Vanish Flourocarbon last nite... I dont know how many fish we lost at shore... making a trip to the sports shop today to pick up more line and some new hooks :P
Does anyone use steel leaders for the eyes?

That vanish worked good in the winter for lakers and pike.. And for some reason a 2 pound fish can snap the line when you lift them up over the rocks... I was impressed with it over the winter but when you got a 2 pound fish snapping 10lb line..somethins gotta be wrong.. >:(

Made it out today... Caught 1 nice pickerel, and lost another at the boat.. Fished the evening for a little bit and caught a real nice sized bullhead for the lake.. Here's the pics...

All fish were released to fight another day.... Lost my tackle box full of gear on the way home, when the tailgate popped open....Boy was I sad :'(.. I turned around and drove back up the road 15 miles and found it laying in the road..Talk about luck...I think the fishing gears gonna be riding in the cab for now on, and troutbums gonna half to ride in the back for the rest of the season... :P

Just under 18 inches, We weighed it on a cheap scale, and it said it was over 2lbs...But I don't think the scale is all that accuarte..Unless the fish was eating lead sinkers for breakfeast... :laugh:

The camps been in the family for years...My girlfriend and I took it over and are in the process of winterizing it.... The electric is almost done and hopefully I'll have it all set for this winter.... :)
