Carp swarm

For those of you who don't look at the NY message boards, here are some photos I took from Montezuma National Wildlife Refuge in central New York a couple of days ago:
The numbers will only increase over the next month or more, as long as the water's flowing from the refuge.

Cool! Someone posted a pic like that on a carp site and said the swarm happened when they dumped the juice from a can of corn in the water before starting to fish. That's gotta be a confidence builder.

One of the Marina's here gives out popcorn for the kids to throw out for the carp. These things are HUGE and there are hundreds of them rolling on top of each other to get it.

Geez, that would be a blast. Do they bite when they swarm like that or is it like suckers when they spawn in masses and they won't hit anything?

There is an area in my area like that aswell. they always build up around the locks this time of year. There is a carpfood dispenser and kids pay a quarter to feed them.

I believe it is at a grating to keep the carp out of the wildlife refuge. If they got in they would ruin the whole wetlands complex they have set up for the birds. Can you say non native destructive species? Could get quite a few with one bowfishing shot.

Theres a 6 ft or so drop in a covered manhole-type sluice that runs under the road- the only way they ever could get in is a severe flood. I've shot carp here from the boat, and its not really even fun! You more often than not get two at a time, and belive me, angry carp+angry carp=boat ride!! These things are like giant smelt!! Its quite a sight to see!

Very cool photos taxidermist, that would be very cool to see live or on a movie camera.
They must be staging to get ready for the spawn.
