Trip West - 2019

For our latest jaunt, the wife and I traveled to Oregon recently. Why not? We’ve never seen the Pacific Ocean and what a beautiful place to cast our eyes on it for the first time. We spent the first half of the vacation taking day trips up and down the coast from our home base in Newport and the second half in Central Oregon in a town called Bend with some famous trout streams, lava fields and volcanos, and 21 breweries.
I only brought trout gear for the second half of the trip but the salmon were running when we hit the coast and I witnessed many anglers fishing for them from shore (river) and boat. Saw one boat land a nice salmon on a dodger rig in the Siletz River. Many grey whales cruising up and down the coast, some very close to shore which was cool. We probably saw 40 of them the first day.
I fished 5 different rivers/streams around Bend and caught fish in all of them but nothing big. My biggest fish actually came from East Lake which is part of Newberry Volcanic National Monument. I know nothing about fly fishing lakes for trout so I threw on a woolly bugger and 4 casts later I had I nice rainbow. I also caught a 15 inch brown in the Fall River on a dry fly. In any event, my goal is catch at least one trout in every western state I visit so mission accomplished.
We took about 400 photos but here’s a sample of the scenery, wildlife, and some of the places I fished.

Nice pics, I spent a weekend in the Dalles this spring. Went to a wedding there, so I didn't have time to fish. Gonna head back some day it's beautiful out there.

Thanks for the comments, been out of commission for a week. Day after I posted this I went fishing after work and got poison ivy all over my face, forehead, arms, etc. Finally went to the doc and got steroids and clearing up now. And I caught no fish that night, just the ivy.
