There seems to be a few versions Trap. Some have a spun body with an overlay of full hairs.

If you lend someone $20 and never see that person again, it was probably worth it.

Thanks reg for the info on the gills.....and I wanted to say, my son ties all kinds of flies from gills to striper flies but he also made some great looking spun deer hair bugs, mice etc. I'll have to find some and post some pics.

take a kid hunting and fishing, it's a lot better than leaving them on the streets!!

From the way they look Trapper, the body is built up under the deer hair. How do you figure they made those wings on the big get ones?

I found this picture online. They did some fancy painting on them as well. Looks like the head was clipped back. Maybe the wings were spun on under the body.

Looks very challenging! Good winter project.

Nice collection Dom.

They would have some wind resistance eh Trapper? You'd need a nice 8 wt and a custom furled leader to get that to turn over  ;D

Where's Waldo ???

Trapper ties some really cool looking mice. He's much better at spinning deer hair than me. I struggle.

I'm working on a shad pattern that might work in my local waters. The other day some of the crappies I caught regurgitated whole shad. One about 3" actually swam away.

Anyone tie a good gizzard shad pattern they want to share?
