Post by: Raquettedacker on Aug 08, 2017, 06:06 AM
I need to cut about 4" off the butt of this rod without ruining it..
Any suggestions from you or anyone else?

wondering why???? also of it's a good rod why not her a new reel seat and handle and rebuild the  lower end instead of cutting and messing up the bal of the rod

I've used a hacksaw with a fine toothed blade in the past to do exactly that, Raq.

If you feel the need to cut it a hacksaw will work , but a band saw would be smoother and then just glue on a butt cap  , Just my .02

Very fine Saw like a coping Saw Dom. Take your time, a little sanding and a new grip cap. Send it to me if you're not comfortable doing it.

I have a very fine cut pull Saw for finish cuts.

Can't believe you don't have an ocellating Saw Larry. Although, I know you're a bit of a perfectionist like me.... ;D

They have a mini version too. I use it for making finer cuts on just about everything.

I bought this Sunday morning just to set it up for top water with braid line.. Its 8'6", i have 2 others set up for TW and there 7'6" and 6'6'...    This works great except the butt extends past my elbow and I dont like it..
Can I just epoxy the end after I get my chain saw out?    ::)

I would think so. Like I said...a little sanding and it'll look like it was born that way.

I was just thinking Dom, you might want to shorten it with two cuts. Cut the end cap off first, then cut it to the length you want minus the salvaged end cap. Sand both sawn ends clean and glue the end cap back on.   8)

Now I see...   ;)
If it works I'm buying 2 more and do the same thing to them for other lures.

Dom, if you have to reinforce the end cap a bit, drill it out a little and fit a piece of wood dowel into the end cap and blank. Some 5 minute epoxy, a little sanding and you're done.

Ok I took all of your advice and thank you..
I measured and cut it several times till it felt right...
A little sanding and it should be good to go....
Now to get out and try it... ;D
