how many of you guys have downriggers you made your self and do you have any pictures of them.

my cousin just has some downrigger cable/rope and a weight that he cleats off on his kayak to use as a downrigger....he just has to retreive the ball manually and set the depth manually but it's cheap, takes up way less space and it works.

Many, many years ago I was thinking about building a downrigger, in the end it was the need of a spool that would handle the wire and stress that kept me from building one... I tried a couple Heavy Duty line spools but after little use they would split in two, making a terrible mess. Good luck and let us know what you come up with!
