LOL! Simmer down, boys!
I have to agree that predators are a necessary part of the natural balance.
Without them our waters would be full of dink panfish and nothing else.

That is one hell of a muskie! Jebus!

Bigred
Before we had all the coyotes, we had a lot more deer.

The coyotes have always been there, they disappeared for a while and are now coming back.  They take the sick and injured, not the healthy animals.    They are a good thing.  Having huge populations of deer that are malnutritioned is bad for the deer herd, and bad for the environment.

That is a nce fish glad someone had some fun landing that monster.  I have to agree that I don't like muskies either.  Before you jump on me I'll explain why.

1)  They smell. never could get over that smell plus they slime the boat and net and I lose too many lures to them .

2) They may like soft spined bait but they sure do mess a fishery that they don't belong in, prime example would be Shenango lake in Mercer county.  It had a very low population of native muskies in it.  The state stocked tiger muskies a few years ago.  The walleye population was at the point where it had more walleyes per pound per acre than Pymatuning had.  After the stocked fish started to grow, the walleye population has seen a dramitic decline.  The perch have also declined.

3)  They are pain in the butt when your trolling for crappies and walleyes and all you catch are the tigers.  Best catch of tigers last year was 5 in a 4 hour period.

4)  Don't like fishing for anything that I don't eat.

The PAFBC had stocked tiger muskies into North Park Lake since the mid eighties to control populations of stunted crappies and bluegills. The lake has however been filling with silt the past 30 years and now is no longer capable of supporting any good numbers of muskies.  Very few crappies or bluegills reach edible size but there sure are plenty of them. Too many. The bass are also overpopulated in the lake. Their growth is also slowed as a result.

Muskies do their part to control populations so there will be edible sized fish and their absence does sometimes cause stunted fish.

I am of the opinion a good angler will take advantage of all species of fish and keep fishing year round. ie. fishing for trout and walleyes in the fall through winter and bass and bluegills in the summertime (a very simplified example).

What fish doesn't smell?

I know it was on the state fish commisions website. Not sure if it still is. I'm sure an email to them would get you it though if you can't find it.

Hey you know something Walleye love perch so maybe the perch fisherman should want all the Walleyes taken out because those Darn Walleye are eating their perch.

I agree 100% Jeff. I've never caught a perch out of the Susky yet because all them d**n walleyes are eating them. So from now on (well atleast when the season reopens May 6th) I'll do my part by eating some of these tasty fish.  ;D

BTW JM, The fish was caught in Tuscorora Lake.

Mike,

The susky has lots of perch and crappies.  We catch them in the back of
coves that have 2' or more of water thru the ice.  If you can find a cove that
is a 100 yards or longer with deeper water, that is connected good to the
main river you have a potential hot spot for ice fishing them.  We also catch quite a
few northern's in the back ends of these coves, especially close to last ice.
