Some "popular" bands:
System of a Down, Audioslave, Godsmack, Disturbed, Nirvana, Tool

Some "unknown" bands:
Jane's Addiction, Mr. Bungle, Philip Boa, Sisters of Mercy, A Perfect Circle

The last show I went to was The String Cheese Incident, a bluegrass stoner band.
It was a great performance! I pretty much like all music except country and rap.

janes addiction... unknown??  janes addiction was a very popular band for a long time!  i have also have heard a perfect circle too!

Unknown was in parenthesis, guys.
Most people haven't heard them, unfortunately.

I think the world would be a better place if everyone just faced their feelings and anger. Let it out in what ever way you see fit...

Now that I'm on a tangent- Conservative folks (my dad is a baptist preacher) claim that today's music causes a lot of the problems our society faces. Gangsta Rap, for example. Isn't it plausible that the exact opposite is true?

People get pi$$ed off and write, sing, and scream about it. So do I.
Don't get me started...

Ever hear Perry's project after that? PORNO FOR PYROS
Good stuff inspired by the LA riots.

i listen to a very W I D E range of music... i have teen kids too so that helps pops along...lol  the cool thing is that they also like to listen to the stuff i listen too and even used to listen too! my son begged me to take him to the motley crue concert... i thought that was great, but he had to work anyways!

yes i have heard of porno for pyros...
i also agree with your outlook on music...  i think it was the craziest thing back in the 80's to blame subliminal messages in music for suicidal kids! you can take just about any old album...even perry como...lol and play it backwards and, if your in the right frame of mind you may even hear the devil speaking to you! a friend of mine did this in college.. he was a DJ at the genesee community college. the played the song LADY by STYX backwards on air.... you could hear someone calling out to auntie em like from the wizard of oz! it said.. auntie em, auntie em im there... auntie em im there!

mainly though, i love music almost everywhere i am.. i dont much care for rap and really just started listening to country about 2 years ago. (dont care much for the tear in the beer nuts, but the newer stuff is ok.) i listen to the average radio stations for pleasure and relaxation... but when im angry and need to relieve tension, i listen to the very hard stuff... it prevents me from killing...lol

too add more to this thread...
do any of you know famous musicians?
i had the pleasure to go to school with 2 of the members of cannibal corpse.. 1 member of goldfinger.
i became good friends with robbie stienhardt, which is the violin player from the band kansas.
and also got to do some sound and lights work with a member of slayer!
would love to meet more and party with many of them out there, but its not too common to get to meet any band members. usually, they hide from the public eye, unless you have big hoots and a body that could sink a battleship!...lol

I lived in LA for four years and met Cobain, Beck, L7, Rage, Mudhoney, and many, many others.
My EX-wife and I had a band that went through the same circuits that they did.
I actually played bass and screamed on the stage of The Whiskey.
Our name was Quiver. I have some of the music on tape, but that's it. You won't find it on the 'net. Beck was my favorite. At the time he was still in his original band ironically called Loser. We opened and he provided the smoke after the show. That little guy can smoke!

They are humans, just like you and I. Why don't people get that?

I'm not bragging- This really happened, and it means nothing.
I just chalk it up to life experiences...

Yep- Jimmy Vapid of legendary Hamilton, Ontario band "The Vapids". (They're kind of a cross between Ramones and Frankie Venom's Teenage Head) He's got an incredible collection of out of prints, rareities, and Canadian Indie stuff and has been kind enough to burn some of them for me; greatly enriching my own CD collection.

Lately it's been all Fred Eaglesmith for me.  I like a lot of "real country" or what's now called altcountry, stuff like old Whiskeytown and Hank Williams the III.   I also love old jazz, the grateful dead of course, and some reggae, and the like.

Forgot to mention….. Cadillac Bill and the Creeping Bent, Reverend Horton Heat, Cramps, Horrorpops, and of course the master- IGGY, IGGY, IGGY, and yep…. more Iggy Pop; especially his first release from 1969, “The Stooges” and “Raw Power” Anyone who appreciates high powered, hyper energized, cold blooded, raw and heavy rock and roll must experience Raw Power at maximum volume. If it doesn’t get you jumping thru the ceiling, you’re a walking dead man!

Well, if you boys like that, you gotta check out Hank III.  He does what's called "hellbilly" and it rocks.  Great stuff.

Slipknot :clapping:

I've been a Metallica and Megadeath fan for years too.  In addition to slayer, Pi**in Razors, Machine Head, The Haunted are some of my favorites too.  But right now I can't seem to get Black Sabbath out of my CD player.  I've got all 6 slots filled with it! :thumbup_smilie:  Yeah, I love AC/DC too.

I've also been known to slip some Hank Jr., Waylan and Willie, or Molly Hatchet into my CD player once in a while.

How about Budgie?  Anyone like them?  Two of my favorite rock'n'est classic songs came from one of their early albums, Bandolier.  The songs are "Napoleon Bonaparte I/Napoleon Bonaparte II" and also "Breakin' all of the House Rules" (for some reason this one reminds me of the Sabbath Song "Fairies Wear Boots").

I could go on all day, but I gotta go home from work now and I'll have some Ozzy and Electric Funeral in my player!

Jeez, you'd think I'd grow up eventually.  Imagine, a 47 year old metal head ::)
