fished cranberry last week before all the darn snow, has anyone been there since ?
curious how much snow there on shoreline?
and perch bite was ok for me last week
-
Both ponds were open yesterday morning........ only a few guys fishing and it was sloooow ! Snow was not too bad
-
Tried yesterday afternoon at both Long and Cranberry ponds. Not a bite in either for an hour each. Did OK last week in both.
-
went to ponds today after i fished northerns at first light in seneca lake
got 6 nice perch ,but took a while in water way that connects long to cranberry, real slow
so went back to seneca for afternoon for northers again and ended up with nice limit of them covered some miles today, besides wind was nice day
-
Gotagetm, I assume you are fishing from shore with live bait at Seneca for the pike?
Have you tried any lures?
-
i was from shore at north east corner by the docks at park
i was using shinners under a bobber but there were guys there one day i was there getting a few on diving stick baits and spoons but shinners were working the best 5 feet under a float the bite is rite at sunup till light brightens water and late afternoon when sun is going down im going back there Wednsday before going to ponds
-
Thanks for the info gotagetm, it's hard to beat live bait especially this time of year.

Were you fishing in the marina or the channel by the boat ramp? I often fash that back channel after ice out for panfish but haven't been there yet
-
i was by marina and canal
-
Are the ponds ice free enough for me to take my kayak out this coming weekend?
Phil
-
Yes, both are now completely ice free.
-
Anyone been to the ponds lately? Any reports?
-
There is always the chance for skim ice to form ................ if it gets cold enough with light winds ! It's kind of hit or miss this time of year !
-
Yo Chrony,
I hear you are going to be out of commission for a month or so with your surgery. Heal quickly my friend. We have some eyes to catch this summer
Your Fishing bud..... Boggey
-
Hey Boggey, I will be well rested and looking forward to hitting Oneida with you for sure .............can't wait ;)
-
Did the ponds get skimmed over last night?
-
no,wind has waves keeping them open
-
anyone fish ponds this week?
-
A budy of mine went 3 days ago and between the 2 of them they only got 12 keepers. He did say they have not spawned yet the water is still cold.
-
Got out yesterday afternoon when the wind died down for an hour or so. No perch but got to see a number of nice walleye spawning 10 feet off shore on Cranberry.
-
got none 4 days ago.saw gizard shad dead along shoreline of Long Pond. DEC reports kills like this due to change in water temperatures.
-
It’s been a pretty slow bite but the Perch are good size ! I’m averaging about 15-30 each outing !
-
well ponds mostly open
fished yesterday{christmas}
endded up with a few small perch, gonna give it a shot again tommoro will post results
-
nothing today
tried spikes and fatheads ,notta

Although I will 99.9% of the time prefer emeralds, I have typically seen fatheads outperform emeralds on the ponds and Braddocks.
JMHO.
YMMV
At least he got out yesterday.
Was a nice day to get skunked.

Yup, here now real windy

Yup, here now real windy
Same here in Cheektowaga.
Thought about going out today with the warmer temps and hitting the streams for some steelhead.
But the rain overnight turned the turbidity up a few dozen notches.
Maybe I'll run down to the river later and toss a line in for some perch at the foot of Ontario.
or not.
;)

I have NEVER seen fatheads out fish Emeralds at the Greece ponds ............... I have seen guys dump their fatheads and go buy Emeralds after watching for half an hour ;) ask my buddy Elmer :-)

Like I said, YMMV.
And next time I see Elmer, I'll try to remember to ask him.

Sweet.
My family's farm is on Lighthouse.
Been fishing the ponds and Braddocks for over 50.
Close to 60.
So what!
I told you that I typically always prefer emeralds.
But I have seen fatheads outperform emeralds on the ponds and BB more than the reverse.
Just what I've seen.
Numerous times.
And I cannot explain it.
You however, have seen different.
Tell you what........bring both. :D
And oaks, mousies, and waxworms.
And redworms.
And perchbugs………….
;D
-
went for lil bit this morning, wind blowing pretty good ,didnt do well ,may try again in morning or even try out in I bay in boat ,if nothing come to ponds even the duck hunters didnt stay long!!!

Actually dragonfly nymph Bob.
We used to buy them at Mac's boat Livery on Silver Lake back in the 60's.
Fish love them.

I have not seen them for sale since back then.
-
my buddy Joe and I have fished the ponds and Salmon creek and Braddocks for 50 years and have always done well with the fatheads, which are damm hardy. I have had a minnow bucket with fatheads for almost 2 months with no circulator but only rain water additions. Too bad my minnow receite is expired. Emeralds usually die within hours from when I buy them stored the same way.

They were my go to perch bait when I was younger. Bob's Bait in Lakeville always had them. Would love to find a supply of them again.

A few years?!?!
wow.
OK - thanks.
These little bugs always worked great when I was a kid back in the early 60'.
I need to locate some and give them a try again.
-
Tried yesterday for a few hours pretty slow but caught a few both on niagras and plastic with spikes
-
Is anyone fishing the ponds off shore?
TIA
-
Yes people are fishing from shore on both ponds. Still some ice shifting around on each pond but should be gone soon.
-
I wondered if people own any of the shore on Cranberry along Edgemere Dr. On Google maps, it shows docks on the north shore.
-
there is a lot of private land around both ponds. no docks to launch persay. small lot at west end of cranberry. cant park on the road there, they do ticket. can park at long pond and walk back if need to be
-
Cranberry is much more strict than Long Pond. Cannot park along Edgemere at all along Cranberry or you will be ticketed. Saw the DEC patrolling for licenses and illegally parked cars yesterday (Sunday). Wind was blowing pretty good, although there was one boat out in Long Pond toughing out the elements. Didn't see too many people hauling anything in yet
-
I know you can't park along Edgemere Dr but I am talking about the docks on the north shore. Some of them have posted signs on them. Do people have the rights to post them.
-
Always wondered that myself. There is a dock that goes in at long pond on edgemere with a posted sign on it. Pretty sure that entire stretch is town property.
Where the docks are on cranberry some are suspect but some are on a maintained piece of property so may be private. Heading down after work today can't wait!
-
If you buy one of those houses you have a choice to buy the rights to the water across the street. They do not own the land. They do own the rights to own and maintain a dock if they pay for it and yes they can have you arrested for trespassing on that land. Just like the erie canal and many other bodies of water. If you own the land across the street you can pay and build a dock there.
-
Thanks for the reply
-
There's also the risk of an insurance claim. If the property owner has a dock (or deck platform) and someone gets hurt, the property owners probably don't want to deal with the possibility of being sued.
And of course the trash that gets left behind. Take a ride down Edgemere along both ponds after a sunny day during the perch run. After 50+ vehicles have been parked there. It's easy to find empty bait containers, crushed beer cans, cigarette butts, plastic bags, food wrappers, and tangled lines all along the shore.
I probably wouldn't want to deal with that either.
-
Ponds have been pretty steady for the last week. I myself cant complain quality fish every time i go
-
There were 2 foot rollers coming into the shore this afternoon with the Southwest wind gusts at 40MPH and no one fishing either pond when I went by. Air temp. in the 40's!YIKES!
