When you fish under a float do you impart any action or just let it sit until you detect the bite? thx

What I do when using plastics is set the jig 16-18 inches below the bobber. Cast out and slowley retrieve. You can adjust depth and retrieve style as needed. What worked in the am might not later in the day. Experiment with all.. Hope this helps. I never fished for crappie till last year.. Oh yea, I only fish from shore as I have no boat.. John

I'd have to agree with JRS, I've been throwing Beetle Spins at em' for 40 years.

I've been using a lure called fish-n-spin almost like a bettle spin but with a willow blade works really well also try the gulp alive minnows on a 1/32 jig head

Cubby mini-mite.  May not be the best but they're pretty d**n good.  They're a rip off though at over $1.50 each.

I use a rod that has a whippy tip and I like minnows on a true turn hook under a bobber(I like the ones that look like an old fashioned top) split shot about 6" above the hook.
I have found that by jiggling the end of the rod to make the bobber quiver on the water and then pause and quiver again as I slowly reel in I get a lot more takes than if I don't give the bobber this action.

Pink Jig heads with a fathead, any tubes, but my favorite is BPS Crappie Beavers,....Pink/Char, Black/Char White or Black heads but I don't think that matters to much...

Thanks for the tips. For my very first crappie trip ever I ended up with 13, caught solely on the beetlespin with no spin. Although none were very big I still had a blast. I'll have a decent lunch tomorrow.
