Early spring fishin
« on: Apr 27, 2008, 07:55 PM »
I have a week off of work in early May and I would like to get some fishing in. As most of the major lakes aren't open until mid may, I would like a few suggestions of places to try out. I am thinking about heading towards Nordegg and searching for some trout, but I think it's still going to be awfully cold especially at night. I am guessing most campgrounds will be closed so I thinking I will be "roughing" it. I don't plan on having a boat out. I think I am willing to drive just about anywhere in AB, but closer to Edmonton is better. Suggestions anyone?

The only rivers & creeks I saw that looked safe enough to off-shore fish were on the drive from Innisfail to Caroline & then north to Rocky Mountain House.  This was a good month ago, so they're probably looking even better by now.  Did a drive to Edson from Edmonton on the weekend & everything inbetween looked pretty shotty river-wise.  Most streams were still nearly frozen over.  I'm guessing you'll have to head south, Trav.
