100lb blue shark on a Barbie Rod! (video)

One of the guys on our local fishing site here in CT started using his daughters Barbie fishing rod every now and then and eventually it became a bit of a celebrity when he actually started landing real fish on it.

So earlier this summer he started a just for fun Barbie rod only tournament. 3 months long and using a points system based on the length of the fish caught (pics or video required). Respooling with any line is allowed.

It caught on pretty good so far, with grown men running out and scoffing up Barbie, Hulk, Superman, Scooby-Doo, or any version of that rod. We've had a bunch of members posting video of some good catches, including largies over 5lbs, and channel cats.

So while on a shark tourney last week, our tournament founder reeled up a 100lb blue shark. Since the start of the tourney, the Barbie rod had gained some respect from me by it's ability to actually catch fish. Now i'm a true believer. No melted drag or broken pieces! Barbie can take it like a man!

my 3 tr old daughter has the same pole i wonder if she could land 100lb shark too  lol  i doubt it she has a hard enough time with 2lb pickerel

i got to be honest i think that shark was fought out ,caught on another  rod  landed then hooked  on the barbie  rod and the  video  is  a joke! that fish was  so tired it couldn't  even run!  come on guys, next week i tell you all the truth about  the  tooth fairy

hey Trap, I watched it again after the initial novelty screening and you just may be right on. No shark that size is going to be held back by a rod like that. that shark would have ripped that rod right out of his hands if it was fresh. It sure was fun to watch for the fun of it though...

Caught about 20 blue shark a couple weeks ago and some came in like a dishrag while others gave a good fight. It could be real.

I caught a 220# tuna on a St.Croix ultra lite ice fishing jigging rod, JIGGING RAP, and 3# test ice line.....LOL
