Fish hook removal
« on: Jun 10, 2019, 09:31 PM »
Thought I would share this in case someone has to pull a hook out.

I went out to Jeffery's Saturday with a friend of mine for some haddock, we started getting low on bait so my buddy decided to hook up a sabiki rig for some macks and just as he was getting ready to send it down the 20oz. Sinker slipped out of his hand and he ended up with one of those hooks burried in his finger.

A few months ago I took a first aid course put on by a guide and he taught us to this trick for removing a fish hook,

https://youtu.be/pjCEzjj-ztE

I have to say I can't believe how easy and painless, the hook came out.

The trick is to count to 3 but pull it fast and hard on 1-1/2.

I can attest to this method.
Was fishing a busy pier once and someone cast a line a didn't look back first.  Caught me right in the face. Another guy knew this method and hook was out with minimal pain. only bled for a few seconds.

LOL

I was alone last year and had to do that to myself.  The count to 3 but yank hard at 1 1/2 isn't as effective when you are by yourself. :P

Me to. I cut 2ft of line wrapped up my finger drove home put the tag end in a vice a was able to hold the hook down with a finger on the same hand and pulled with the other...    ;D

Why not let it dissolve? Only takes a couple days.  ;D

Why not move hook up tru and squeeze Barb down and then slide hook out. less tear damage.
