Etrex Legend.  Great device, small, feature packed, plenty of room for maps and relatively inexpensive.  Just can't use it for precise speed measurement while on the boat.  Gives only a general reading with a +/- 2 MPH margin of error.

I like the Garmin 60cs for the features of.

electronic compass
inland lakes and maps with fishing hotspots
topo maps of the entire US 1:100000 scale 1:24000 for national parks (inc the Adirondaks)
trip and waypoint management on my PC.  Fairly easy to figure out
I'm used to a Garmin 76 marine so it was easy to adapt
On-line updates to the unit software
barometric pressure tracking
compact size for the features available
Can be dropped from at least 6 feet onto a hard surface without damage. (personal experience)

to name a few
