Title: photbucket third party hosting??
Post by: dickbaker on Jul 11, 2017, 09:43 AM
???  Ok ::)   What is photobucket third party hosting going to cost me?  I went to imgur but I can't seem to use it to upload photos to forums??
imgur allows me to copy the URL but no photo comes up?

Dick, From what I understand, "photoripoff" wants $400 in order to store unlimited photos and post those images on other sites (3rd party hosting).   I created an account on "postimage", but haven't used it yet to see how user friendly it is.

https://postimages.org/ (https://postimages.org/)

Here, I'll try one now :
(https://s20.postimg.org/ik5ytoq31/Thorny_052117_1.jpg) (https://postimg.org/image/uysqu0hl5/)

Seems pretty easy to use and NO FEES!  (yet)

Did you click the BB Code option and then click copy on your computer? Than paste in the box? It may not be enough that the BB code is highlighted. You may have to physically click copy and then paste.

On photobucket once the code was highlighted you were copied. Don't think that is the case with Imgur.

If you're the man on the left to me you look like the actor Gary Sinise that was the Lt. on Forest Gump. Anyone ever tell you that?

Woh!
This is what Boon was talking about Dick.
I typically like to limit my photos for posting between 100-200 KB
Open the photo in Windows Paint.
there are other programs that will do the job but Paint works fine.
In the Home tab on the upper right you will see a selection for resize
Press it and then I use the percentage selection.
Then change it from 100 to something smaller.
Say, 30
Then save the file and look to see what size it ended up as.
Do this a bunch till you find what works best for you and your typical camera setting that you use to take fishing photos.
I have a dedicated Canon for fishing and 30% works best for that.
For the iPhone I will use 26%
Keep them small for this kind of stuff.

Tip - keep the original photo as is by saving with a new name after you resize it.
I simply stick a small case letter "a" after the photo number.
Then I use these "a" pics for posting or emailing.
Works great like this on FB too if you do that.

Good luck
Mac

OH OH?   Found out that if you delete image at Postimages site it also deletes image at any forum that you have posted it at.
That's OK as long as I remember it??

OK!  Now I'm getting the idea!  Except that I found that , if I deleted the photo at the Postimages site it was also deleted at the Forum?  I will remember that in the future and leave photos stored at Postimages the same way I would have at imgur or photobucket!

That's me, and that is a new one!  I'll have to see if I can find a picture of him.

Dick,

In "postimage", I just hover over the picture I want to attach and a little "tool bar" kind of thing opens across the top of the image.  Click on the "share" button that looks like a Y or a slingshot.  That opens a new window and you can click on the little blue icon to the right of the "hotlink to forums" line.  That copies the code, then you paste it into the post here.  Don't even need to click on the "insert image" button on here.  Sounds more complicated than it is.

Looks like you're getting the hang of it, though!

Here is Perchbaits Master Angler smallie he caught a few weeks ago:

Or........you could have planned to come down to the house for a crepe breakfast and I could have shown you how to do it?

Nice Smallie PB! Best one I've seen this year.

It was PB's PB smallie @ 20"!  It was kind of long and lean, so the picture doesn't do it justice.  First cast on a new lure, too!  He caught one last year outside of St.Albans Bay that was an absolute tank, but "only" 19.5".  That one looked WAY bigger than this one because it was so fat.

here is an app to use on your windows pc to add images here.
http://postimages.org/app

on this site there is also a topic talking about postimage for here.
https://www.myfishfinder.com/fishing_forum/index.php?topic=74035.0

on the shanty, here is where we have been practicing. there are different means to upload pics, but you do not have to log in and then upload a picture and then post it. that is one of the ways you can do it tho.
