Been ready for a couple years I think. Going to Josh I hope.

If you lend someone $20 and never see that person again, it was probably worth it.

Still keeping busy at the vise. Tied some rainbow warriors and now I'm working on some rain bait patterns for summer stripers.

I can't wait to start using all these flies.  Just need a thaw.  Next up, small bait for striped bass. Each summer, schools of striped bass focus on tiny bait and become difficult to catch using "regular" sized flies.  You cast and cast and they just ignore you which leaves you scratching your head. So I'm experimenting with a variety small hooks (size 6) and smaller profiles in hopes of solving the riddle. I'm also thinking about a floating version in "small."

Bartman nice job on the flies, are those striper flies heads made with tinfoil and epoxy. Like the looks of them might want to try tying a few. Thanks in advance

Tinsel body covered with UV clear would do those nicely. I do something similar for a small shad pattern. Smallmouth on the canal love them.

Thats the fun part of tying flies. Experimenting!

Bart, those flies look great; I think they would catch anything  that swims!Let us know how they work on the strippers.

You're very observant. I used aluminum foil from the kitchen wrapped around the hook and then epoxied over it. Tail is just white craft fur. Fly tiers all know that anything in the house is up for grabs as a possible material.

I'm going to keep experimenting. The saltwater hook I used is a bit flimsy, will probably work on school stripers but not albies. I have some bonefish hooks in about the same size I'm going to use next.

Got a couple bamboo rods to restore for a friend.
Orvis Shooting Star circa 1958 (right)

Finish is remarkably good. A couple of mashed line guides. Tip top guides are rusted. Some corrosion around the reel seat and the ferrules need refurbishing....but overall in pretty nice shape.

Orvis Midge
This one needs some work. Probably a re-wrap, new stripping guide, clean and refinish, some corrosion around the reel seat and winding check.

The midge is still pretty straight. One tip for the Shooting Star has a pretty good whale in it. Time and some tip weight might straighten it some.

I’ll be working on these over the next couple months. Need to build a little hand wrapping fixture first.

Probably should have put this in the rod building thread. I’ll post progress over there.
