Leech Lake Trip
« on: Sep 07, 2020, 09:33 AM »
Returned home last night from 9 day trip to Leech Lake, MN. Had a good trip! LOTS of wind!!!! Couldn't get on lake Tues or Thursday. Caught limit of dandy bluegills Sunday, Monday, Wednesday, Friday and Saturday. Beautiful fish. Also picked up some real nice crappies a couple of days.

Gills and crappie from Leech Lake last week. Thanks Spooled. Got It! Couldn't find the big perch. Caught 150 each of 6"-9" in about an hour. Water temp was 67 degrees. Probably in a week or two big ones will move in?

Heading up to Portage lakes near backus next week. Cant wait. It's always nice to get away. Limits a not what they once were but who needs to keep that many fish anyway. Most of us can get what we want around here. We hope to catch some nice gils like you did. Always have in the past. The gil lake we fish has a 5 fish daily limit. Not that the fish we keep are great eating size but since we can only keep 15 for the entire week we rarely keep any under a lb. How did you do on the walleye? It's sad but we rarely catch a walleye. Lakes we fish don't have high populations so it's not worth the time or effort working for a few fish. Thanks for sharing.

We only fished walleyes one morning. I got one trolling a Hotntot. Two  neighbors were on them everyday trolling Shad Raps in 7- 15 feet of water. They got like 4, 9, 3 4, 2 a day depending on wind. The day we fished them we marked tons of fish, just weren't hungry.
Water temp was still 67 degrees so next few weeks things should improve .bigr, knew folks that went to Backus years ago and remember they caught huge gills. Over the years I'm sure they depleted numbers on the big ones. Good MN is trying to keep the big ones around. Have a great trip!
