Planer Boards
« on: Mar 26, 2008, 08:12 AM »
I'm planning on purchasing planner boards an am not sure which way to go,The in line or the full size with the mast.I've fished with friends who run the shorties they  put them out and disconnect them with with little effort and they do work great but dragging the boards and the fish seem to take some of the fun out of it.On the other hand The big boards with the mast use releases that separates the fish from the planner and you can easily stack several releases on one board at a time and I do have plenty of room in my boat to install the mast.I know the $$$$ for the big boards and the masts are about 3X the cost of the shorties.

My son and I made a set of boards about 1990 or 91 IIRC. I just used some scrap pine boards I had laying around. Cut them to length and angled the fronts and assembeled them with cheap threaded rod and still use them to this day. I really thought pine wouldn't stand up, but I prooved myself wrong. I am pasteing a link here that will hopefully. If you can DIY, you can save some $$$$$$$.   The link didn't come out as a link so you will have to highlight it and copy and paste it to the address bar and go from there. Sorry about that.

Once a topic gets pushed beyond the lead page it stands a good chance of not being seen. I think this is what might have happened in this case. At any rate the lad asked for help and that's what I gave him.
