The little guy picked us about 10 dozen worms last night hard to believe they were out already..hes gearing up for bullheads..
-
Got plans of how to keep them?? There's a few article out thrre on how to care for them.. also are you storeing in a fridge or basement etc.. better make plans cause 10 dz is a awful lot of stink if they go south..
-
Yea boondox i have a few worm boxes..and i store them in my bait fridge i have a seperate one for all my bait..not a huge one but it works fine...as for bedding coffee gounds and worm bedding
-
i caught about 100 crawlers last knight and today put them to work on west shore of seneca and had perfect south wind and caught more bullheads than i wanted! could of filled a pickup if i wanted, if i knew how to post a picture on here i would show my jet sled half full with them!
-
You guys got a paper shredder for shredding documents like old insurance bill credit card stuff etc??? take those shreds and moisten them a tad.. save you big time on buYing worm beading.. that and moist coffe grounds .. the link I read said no bananas and no citrius fruits they just don't like that stuff. . try natural stuff but not tomatos there acidic too.. the worms don't like them either.. ya there's a more then a couple links in this stuff so search around.. btw it's going to rain a lot till Monday around here.. good time to pick them.. don't know if it's same around there?? We usally use gallon bags to put them in till we get them on the worm bedding and in fridge.. if you guys live around lakes seen a few guys selling them if they over collect during the right seasons they low ball the big guys like dmf bait company wich sells for 3.99 a doz so they drop price so they sell sell for around 1.99 to 2.99 a doz to fishermen.. and some Bait shops..
-
I tie jigs for a local baitshop and he buys worms from my son for buck a dozen..the owner of the baitshop makes 2.99 off them so its a good thing for little guy to do..gonna drop tonight to about 27 then back up into the 40s i think were gonna go chase some steelies around in a few small tribs around my area.and its gonna rain more..i fished the crappie derby we have here..now all my ice is gear is put up..i fished the derby cause ice was 14 inches or more..im done now..
-
Here's a good video on store bought bedding vesus making your self.. should give little guy a good hobbie..
https://youtu.be/635atUDeze8 (https://youtu.be/635atUDeze8)

The nice thing about this type of bedding link above is you can take it to Canada soil you can not..
Ya steel head should be going on right now!! was trying to talk a buddy into going but basement flooded.. with all this rain we had been doing cleaning instead of fishing..

I've been putting mine in damp oatmeal with a dash of coffee grounds and a little other food like some lettuce for them. I was just trying to get rid of the nasty black mud they come packed in. Worked good last year, kept the boat cleaner.

HELLO!! Hate this time of year. I had worms all over the garage apron the other night too. Thought about trying the inlet at Conesus for the bullhead. It's been open for a couple weeks.
-
Go get 'em big (and little) guy!! I keep trying to get my daughters to be my fishing buddies but , so far, no takers. I still have hope for the little one (5 years old) though!! Glad to see a kid that has some ambition and is willing to put in a little work for his gains. Well done! :D

It's not that they are afraid of worms- they don't mind that. They just don't like the cold weather. Never seems to bother them when they are sled riding all day though!! Both girls like fishing open water with me when the weather is nice :D

I'm surprised the mods let it go on as long as they did on that one. Definitely some beauties on there this year!!
-

I stopped going over there back in early January I think.
Way too stupid and they rehash the same junk 1000X.

That's what is keeping me off the rivers right now is flood stage type water.. the rivers are high and very muddy some have flooded thier banks huron in green oak twp river rasin south of the exit of the huron river.. and a lot of other flooding going on like my basement.. it's the right time to do steel heading just wrong conditions.. for us right now in south east michigan cause of all the rain.. and we get more rain saturday night too.. go figure??
-
Bummer about your basement better keep the subpump going..we got some rain but not that much..but enough thats for sure..thinking of hitting a creek here called maxwells i think it should be open i know the eyes were going at oswego behind the hotels some browns also..gonna check my crappie creek out tomarrow hopefully no ice..owasco was rippin with waves to on the north end nice muddy water mite give that a shot for bullheads to..
-

Just read this and dropped in IS for a minute. I haven't spent any time there this year. But, this crap happens every year when the ice goes out.
I always keep my crawlers in newspaper. It tears in thin strips very nicely. I dampen it and put it in a cooler. Worms keep in the fridge for months. I change the bedding every few weeks. The big parking lot at the park near me is prime crawler ground after a warm rain. Easy picking ;D
Bullhead fishin' is another month or so away for me. Been going every spring for 60 years. Been using the same Coleman lantern for 40. Which reminds me......ink I'll give the old lantern a little TLC. It could use a paint job.

actually, it's kinda been like that all season for some reason. Seems that there's a couple new "Mr. Know-it-alls" that get off by fighting with the old "Mr. Know-it-alls".
-
I thought it has been a pretty calm season over there this year compared to most.... I only recieved 1 nasty PM so far and thats only because i didnt respond back fast enough to him about ice conditions on a certin lake... 8)
-
Raq, hope you have fun tonight at the big Inlet get together. They are having Winterfest over here today. Ice won't be the best for some of the events that are planned, but the kids will have a good time. They will be able to get wet..h2l
-
Thanks Doug.Theres deffently water on the ice but still snow on the ground...At least its going to be warm..... Good night for a bonfire and fireworks...
Have a great day yourself.....

Not bad a 40 yr old coleman lantern..they dont make them like they used to thats for sure..
-
You should get a dual fuel stove and a dual fuel lantren.. I bring mine to Canada try finding propane or "white Gas" colmen fuel.. in the bush of Canada is not going to happen.. with the dual fuel you can run gasoline or colmen fuel in it no conversion nesseary.. just got to empty the colmen fuel out and fill with gasolive.. that or if the world ends we have light and cooked food at least.. ;D
-
It ain't broke....I ain't fixin it Boon ;D
I also have a Colman stove I purchased at the same time as the lantern. It still performs as new.
My Bride refreshed my memory. They're both 47 years old.

Speaking of night crawlers, went out to do shore fishing and had trouble finding any to buy. 3 different places that I usually go didn't have them, probably too early to make it worthwhile to stock them. Something to consider it you are planning a trip. I will be checking my parking lot and other sources to see if any are out yet here. I still had spikes left so I used them and bummed a couple worms from nearby fisherman.
Too early for bullheads, no? I wouldn't mind hitting that some night soon.
-
taking rest of crawlers i caught other night and headed to seneca for bullheads now ,wind is right hope it isnt raining to bad and to much wind there
-
Hope you get some bullies im taking a few of mine to try n get a steelie..with the little guy of course..now that its not pouring out anymore
-
well morning started slow wind was almost unbearable and raining sidways so i moved to seveal different areas about 12;30 wind died and partly sunny and they went on a feeding frenzy!
kept 40 in about 2.5 hours and threw a bunch back could of stayed and caught more, but that was enough for today
-
did you get any bullheads?
-
one post above yours trap
i kept 40 yesterday probably could of caught 100s
once wind died down and sun peaked through and warmed muddy water a bit i hammered them
by time i quit was getting doubles

Does anyone use bite alarms for shore fishing? I was thinking of having them on so I can also do a little casting on another rod.

We use clip on bells for catfishing.
The bullhead fishing I have done is typically too fast and furious to require the bells.
But as always, YMMV.
-
agreed on the bullheads, when it's on you don't have time to deal with one.
I was thinking of when I shore fish for bows, landlocks, catfish, etc. I have used bells as well, but at times I don't hear them as well as I used to. The alarms have little LED lights too, would be good at night. Just wondering if anyone had any they could reccomend, and what their experiences were.

Thats different boondox

Thats different boondox
If you want noise add a bell .. they shut off if no movement and turn on when the rod throbs under a load from a fish.. they also kinda twinkle so there noticed.. water proof and take triple "a" batteries .. not those expensive watch batteries either common findable batteries..
-
Just picked up a couple dozen crawlers after the rain. Hopefully those browns will be hungry in the AM before winter returns. :-\
-
Yup, they would not commit to the shiners, but gobbled up the crawlers.
