You guys got a paper shredder for shredding documents like old insurance bill credit card stuff etc???  take those shreds and moisten them a tad..  save you big time on buYing worm beading.. that and moist coffe grounds .. the link I read said no bananas and no citrius fruits they just don't like that stuff. .  try natural stuff  but not tomatos there acidic too.. the worms don't like them either..  ya there's a more then a couple links in this stuff so search around.. btw it's going to rain a lot till Monday around here..  good time to pick them.. don't know if it's same around there?? We usally use gallon bags to put them in till we get them on the worm bedding and in fridge.. if you guys live around lakes seen a few guys selling them if they over collect during the right seasons  they low ball the big guys like dmf bait company  wich sells for 3.99 a doz so they drop price so they sell sell for around 1.99 to 2.99 a doz to fishermen.. and some Bait shops..

I tie jigs for a local baitshop and he buys worms from my son for buck a dozen..the owner of the baitshop makes 2.99 off them so its a good thing for little guy to do..gonna drop tonight to about 27 then back up into the 40s i think were gonna go chase some steelies around in a few small tribs around my area.and its gonna rain more..i fished the crappie derby we have here..now all my ice is gear is put up..i fished the derby cause ice was 14 inches or more..im done now..

The nice thing about this type of bedding link above is you can take it to Canada soil you can not..

Ya steel head should be going on right now!! was trying to talk a buddy into going but basement flooded.. with all this rain we had been doing cleaning instead of fishing..

I've been putting mine in damp oatmeal with a dash of coffee grounds and a little other food like some lettuce for them. I was just trying to get rid of the nasty black mud they come packed in. Worked good last year, kept the boat cleaner.

HELLO!!  Hate this time of year.  I had worms all over the garage apron the other night too.  Thought about trying the inlet at Conesus for the bullhead.  It's been open for a couple weeks.

It's not that they are afraid of worms- they don't mind that. They just don't like the cold weather. Never seems to bother them when they are sled riding all day though!! Both girls like fishing open water with me when the weather is nice  :D

Just read this and dropped in IS for a minute. I haven't spent any time there this year. But, this crap happens every year when the ice goes out.

I always keep my crawlers in newspaper. It tears in thin strips very nicely. I dampen it and put it in a cooler. Worms keep in the fridge for months. I change the bedding every few weeks.  The big parking lot at the park near me is prime crawler ground after a warm rain. Easy picking ;D

Bullhead fishin' is another month or so away for me. Been going every spring for 60 years. Been using the same Coleman lantern for 40. Which reminds me......ink I'll give the old lantern a little TLC. It could use a paint job.

You should get a dual fuel stove and a dual fuel lantren..  I bring mine to Canada try finding propane or "white Gas" colmen fuel..  in the bush of Canada is not going to happen.. with the dual fuel you can run gasoline or colmen fuel in it no conversion nesseary.. just got to empty the colmen fuel out and fill with gasolive.. that or if the world ends we have light and cooked food at least..  ;D

I also have a Colman stove I purchased at the same time as the lantern. It still performs as new.

My Bride refreshed my memory. They're both 47 years old.

Speaking of night crawlers, went out to do shore fishing and had trouble finding any to buy. 3 different places that I usually go didn't have them, probably too early to make it worthwhile to stock them. Something to consider it you are planning a trip. I will be checking my parking lot and other sources to see if any are out yet here. I still had spikes left so I used them and bummed a couple worms from nearby fisherman.

Too early for bullheads, no? I wouldn't mind hitting that some night soon.

We use clip on bells for catfishing.
The bullhead fishing I have done is typically too fast and furious to require the bells.
But as always, YMMV.

Post by: UglyStik on Feb 26, 2018, 11:49 AM
agreed on the bullheads, when it's on you don't have time to deal with one.

I was thinking of when I shore fish for bows, landlocks, catfish, etc. I have used bells as well, but at times I don't hear them as well as I used to. The alarms have little LED lights too, would be good at night. Just wondering if anyone had any they could reccomend, and what their experiences were.

Thats different boondox

If you want noise add a bell .. they shut off if no movement and turn on when the rod throbs under a load from a fish.. they also kinda twinkle so there noticed.. water proof and  take triple "a" batteries .. not those expensive watch batteries either common findable batteries..
