Did you ever give Opechee a try? I did for a full day in April with no bites. A FB buddy lives close and goes sometimes.
I read that the use of chemical to control milfoil in Opechee seriously damaged smelt populations

I never actually trolled it but i have caught Rainbow trout, salmon, perch, and lake trout from shore. Smallies as well.
