Fall Fishing
« on: Sep 13, 2017, 06:22 PM »
After not going out in a month I finally made it out last weekend. I was surprised to see such a drastic difference in water temp that has really driven the fish shallower and turned the bite on. Managed to land a few large white perch, one about 2lbs which hit and ran like a salmon, and a picture worthy brown. Their colors as the water temp drops just get better and better... Mainly just using flies this time of year, and there's not much time left for big lake trolling! This one left me seeing spots...

Gotta love the fishes habits...when it starts getting cooler they start feeding more voraciously.

Most people associate the fall with striped bass or just bass in general, but ALL fish start to feed more heavily to "bulk up" for the leaner winter months ahead. That's one reason I will keep fishing until the first real freeze.

Then I start my prep for the ice fishing season!

Yeah, that one beautiful brown! I am always amazed at how vibrant the colors can be on many fish when the season change.

Thanks Wayniac.. I checked out your 24"ers on the Maine page those are amazing. Have not had a chance to fish Maine but those look like good motivation.

IcePhishin you going to make it out again this season up north?

I'm  new to this site but no one seems to post reports here they  just want to know what everyone else is catching.. Night and day compared to Iceshanty

Nice looking brown. What were you seeing for water temps? I have not been out in way too long, but do have the last week of the month off to do some trolling.

Nice looking brown. What were you seeing for water temps? I have not been out in way too long, but do have the last week of the month off to do some trolling.

The surface temps were down into the high 60s but they seemed to have went back up after the warmth last week. Sunday was surface temp 70-71 which is pretty high still, mid summer it was almost 80! They are definitely feeding continuously now though. I took my buddy out Sunday and he landed a pig within the first 10 minutes...Knew it was big so immediately stopped the boat, he cranked him in fast, attempted to make one run upon seeing the boat with a deadly head shake and open mouth then swam straight to the boat and got netted. This guy definitely would have been the lost story if he didnt get him in quick. Nice clean hook right on the tongue with a pretty unorthodox presentation. This is the only football I watched on Sunday.. We took the late shift too and he didnt hook him until 10:15 am at least and quickly released him. 20 ft down over 50 FOW.

That is a nice Brown, like the big black spots. There colors very from each body of water. Some have lots of red spots others that I have caught are silver and some dark brown.
