north shore squid
« on: Jul 11, 2018, 04:35 PM »
I was intrigued by a conversation at work today about squid fishing.  A guy I know goes to RI to catch them. I was wondering if there are any easy spots on the north shore. I have a place to stay in Gloucester so that would be my home base. Just wondering if they can be caught year round or specific months are better.

rd hammah nailed the timing. early and late season being the best. plenty of squid to be caught here in RI. While fluking i mark them all the time. Very tasty and great bait!

there are definitely spots worth trying around Gloucester... haven't heard any positive reports in town though. Try the state fish pier or the breakwater.

Anywhere there is a light over the water is a good spot, I've heard good reports from the head of the harbor, Coast Guard Station, and the Boulevard but that was all from last month before the mackerel and bass moved in.
