Free Fishing in NY
« on: Nov 08, 2023, 07:23 PM »
This Saturday (11/11/23) is the last Free Fishing Day (no license required) in NY for the year.

A fishing buddy an.d my son are planning to fish the Hoosic in Hoosick Falls that day.

Assuming we go as planned, I'll write about our outing.

My younger son and I tried three streams in NY today.

The weather was mostly sunny but cold (about 40 degrees) - - and the water felt even colder.

We tried the Hoosic in Hoosick Falls, where my son caught two browns (one 10" at the Stony Beach and one 12" behind the St. Gobain plant),.

I had several strikes behind the St. Gobain plant, but couldn't seem to set the hook on whatever it was.

We both had the same problem on the Little Hoosick in Petersburgh (light taps, but no firm hits that we could reel in).

Neither of us did anything on the Quackenkill in Cropseyville - - not that I expected much from it (although I have caught brookies there in the past), but I just like the name of the stream.

Nice effort Jim.  Windy today.
