Black Flies
« on: May 08, 2024, 04:45 AM »
Went out in my kayak yesterday around 5pm.
I can't recall ever running into a Black Fly swarm so large. I probably have over 100 bites on the old face and bird legs (had shorts on ).

They're the worst I've seen at my house since I bought it.

This year (so far) has been conducive to all those biting bugs we all love to hate.

When I head out, day or night, I prefer to wear long sleeves and sweats (coated with a dose of bug spray) and a face covering.
Serves double duty, as stops the bugs and prevents sunburn.

Heck, although I haven't done so in quite some time, I used to fish a bridge in Duxbury MA during the summer with temps in the 80's wearing jeans, long sleeve shirt, a windbreaker and neoprene gloves.
Sweat a lot but didn't have to do the "mosquito slap-dance" and could concentrate on fishing.
