You're a week behind trap....I tied mine last week ;D

I have a "Bluegill Assassin" bead head fly in the vise. I'll take some pics later.

Experimenting with tubes...Should work well for some fall browns or steelhead.

Nice work!
What's the advantage to tube flies? I've looked at a few kits for my Danvise, but don't know enough about them to invest.

there are a few advantages to tube flies.

when a fish takes your fly on the swing, the fly will usually run back up the leader a litte ways staying out of the way of the fighting fish. Saving a little wear and tear...

you can always have a sharp hook with tube flies...as you're running a trailer hook that can be replaced when needed. It is much easier to keep a fish on after a take with a tube because you have a hook with a much much shorter shank....giving the fish a lot less leverage during the battle.

they are a little trickier to tie though...especially if you're not tying in the round.

Thanks guys!

A couple advantages of tube flies are that they will last longer.  When you hook a fish the tube will slide up your leader instead of getting chewed up in it's mouth.  It also allows you to tie larger flies and use a smaller hook.  I use a #4 octopus hook, but you can use trebles or any thing you like.  To tie a large streamer on a hook you have to get a large long shanked hook.  With tube flies you can make then as short or long as you want.  Using a short shanked hook helps when fighting a fish too.  The short shank is less likely to pop out because you have less leverage.  And they will last longer not only because they slide away from the teeth of the fish when hooked but as you use a fly your hook may break or bend.  You can simply tie on an new hook and keep on using the same fly.  I am new to tying.  I just started this spring.  I will see what I can do on a step by step.  There are plenty on youtube if you wanna search.  This pattern I kinda came up with myself.  I purchased a kit to start from Pro Flytyer.  You have to buy the flexineedle to mount in you vise to hold the tubes as well.  The thing I like about the pro flytyer tubes id that there are weights, cone heads, propellers and different color tubes to make a variety of flies.
