My favorite panfish. I dip them in white flour and fry them in butter and some garlic powder. That works for eveything from walleye to sunfish and bass. And its really simple. You can also spruce it up a bit in any way you want.

They are very good out of cold water but once the water hits 60 I don't keep them they tend to be mushy.

There are few finer fish swimming that taste as good as a Crappie....imo

   Second " in my opinion " to perch through the ice. That might change if we can get on them someday  Through the ice. Fun as hell to catch as well . Could go crappie fishin with so little gear that its easy to walk a shore line and fish downed trees and other structure.

Indeed crappies are great table fare..should my recipe thread be re instated, there are many ways to prepare them found in that thread. Keep on catchin 'em, they are great table fare ;D

Heading out in a little while... gonna keep a dozen or 2 crappies today and give them a try.
