Deep water gills?

Going to try out fishing some mid summer gills in the deep water. Have never tried this what are some good tactics to get me started

I don't do tons of this but I've had luck on crickets under slip bobbers

not sure if drop shooting is legal were your fishing but that's how I take a lot of deep water gills... I use a weight heavy enough like a 3/8 to 3/4 ounce bell sinker below a 2457 tmc fly tying hook with either a fly I tied on the 2457  or some wax worms like 2-3 of them on one hook... I use a size 14 or 12 for this 2457 hook..  I place the hook 1 to 2 foot above the sinker on the main line just a double over hand knot for the hook like a surgeons loop knot...   and vertical jig it off the bottom till I feel them grab it and weight is felt... I usually target bolder piles and big spawning area deep that are in deep water...like the out sides of the bolder piles that have gravel they can make reds on to spawn in...   some states lead is illegal, some state drop shooting is  illegal, so check the local regs be fore you try...
