Anyone identify the purpose of this mounted on both sides of a Lund gunwale?

Looks like an anti skid step plate to get in and out of the boat without slipping or marking up the boat.

It's a cover to go over the hole someone drilled where there shouldn't be one..............

Na they definetly dont do that.  I have them on mine too.  I wish they were useful!

They aren't on my boat they are on a buddy's boat that he just bought recently. They are definitely not tracks to mount gear... The step pad definitely makes sense although I can't see them being useful.

Looks like a Sea-Dog stainless steel deck step. It's so ya don't  slip when you step down onto your gunwale.
