first session on the S.SK river
« on: May 06, 2007, 08:14 PM »
fished the river here in saskatoon last night, big bend i guess is what they call it.  no success, but enjoyable....i was casting a heavy jig/jumbo minnows and basically drifting/jigging around the bottom, but was wondering if most people just use pickeral rigs.

anyone with any river tactics should post up, spread the wealth!  cheers, john.
got a fish on the line and my boat on the water

Was out at the weir/trainbridge (west side) Sat. 10am - 2pm, 7pm - 8pm. 7 fish, five species. No pics of the hammer handles. Jigs and minnows are my usual choice, but have also used rigs. Lots of people use rigs and enjoy their time relaxing down at the river. The weir is a popular spot, especially this time of the year. Lots of fish stackin up there. Suckers are most active at the moment. Pike and walleye should be hot too. Sturgeon should be active also. Husser

cheers waterwolf and husser!  i got my first of the season this evening, however was only out for a quick line-wetting and didn't bring the camera!  a personal best sauger, at an estimated 4.5 lbs, give or take the half lb.  absolutely beautiful fish, so dark i thought it was a burbot when i first saw it in the water 8) btw, i was fishing directly under the circle drive bridge, right between lanes as to avoid the pigeon droppings  anyways, made my evening, hopefully we can keep this thread going, as i intend to fish as many inches of the river this season as possible.

p.s. caught her on a blue/white glow jig, chartreuse tail and a jumbo shiner.

Way to go ran7ger, that's a giant sauger. :thumbup_smilie:
It was close to the provincial record sauger of 7 lbs 13oz.
