Here's one of "Bob's Bugs" that seems to work really well this time of year.
Here's what I use
Zap A Gap
140 Ultra Black
#12 Maruto 206BL ( Barbless, wide gap, fine wire, nymph hook
1/8" craft foam...Black 3/8" x 1", orange 1/8" x 1"
Start thread on hook and stop 1/3 from eye to bend. Fold black foam in half and tie in.
Place a drop of Zap A Gap on the thread at the underside of the body to anchor the foam. Let it set!
Tie in the strip of orange foam. This will help you see the bug. I also use white and hot pink. A drop of Zap A gap under the indicator helps hold everything together.
Trim the indicator.
Cut a V-notch for the wing. It really doesn't matter to the fish....it just looks good.
Fold a couple of silly legs in half around the thread and tie them in.
Repeat on the opposite side.
Pull the ends of all of the legs up and trim to an even length;
If you'll notice the indent at the head....I heat up my bodkin and melt a small indent to make tying on easier.
It's a simple little bug that really works.
