They can think what they are doing is a brilliant idea…all it will do is cause them to be isolated and looked down upon. And probably cause violent interactions.
It’s a sad day when you think doing something illegal is the right way to gain something.

Yes, you are right. Not criminals but extremely unethical.
Well, not criminals with the Feds..but NYS, Yes.
It’s just like the weed. Legal in NY, Illegal with the Feds.
My whole point is that it is a ridiculous attempt to call attention to a law that the governor shot down.
A compromise is the right solution to this. Instead of spearing, how about the hatchery gives them a tank of males after they have used them to fertilize the eggs.
Keeps the violence out of it, keeps these guys from trampling around the creek disturbing nests and eggs, and gives them a few thousand walleyes. Could all be done without any exposure to the public.

there was  no  violence , they are  not criminals  federally  nor  ny state   and it's  nothing like  pot  there is  no compromise ,it's a treaty  and  as  funny as this sounds  the  American Indians  are  not the ones  known for  breaking  them ....what we  say  isn't going to make  any difference   what the courts  and lawyers  and politions say will......write  your elected officials   tell them how you feel  .......

Well Trapp,
That’s where you are wrong. They did break the law and in NYS eyes they are criminals. That’s why citations were written.
Federally this treaty was signed a million years ago. The way the law in NYS is written, everyone has to obey the laws and the environmental laws. What Hochul didn’t sign into law would have changed that, BUT she didn’t.
Way ahead of calling and sending emails to our officials. They know how I feel.
The only way this ends is with compromise, otherwise it will go on for 20 plus years like it did in Wisconsin. With $hit loads of Violence!!!
And say what you want about this group that drove 4 plus hours from a different country… to feed their family. They were looking to start trouble…
End of Story!

Oneida reservation is not on Oneida lake  they have land  they own some on the lake  but it is not part of the reservation   ,the  3  casinos they own and operate are  not on reservation land!  ..... as  far as i know Oneida lake  and river system  was taken during the  American revolution  ,the Oneidas supported   the  British and  we  defeated them  in  1776 and the war of  1812   the lake and river system  were taken  as strategic and  shipping interest (it's a  gateway to the the  middle  of  north  America) .
i do not believe  the  people involved in the fish spearing are  locale , there are  four nationally recognized nations: the Oneida Indian Nation in New York, the Oneida Nation of Wisconsin, in and around Green Bay, Wisconsin in the United States; and two in Ontario, Canada: Oneida at Six Nations of the Grand River and Oneida Nation of the Thames.
this is  going to  get bigger  and from  past  events   it  will become  nasty . there   really is two sides to this and unfortunately  hate  misunderstanding greed and  all those  nasty human characteristics are  going to make this real ugly.
as  far as i see   everyone is  up in arms  over   some  fish  and  these  people  want  a treaty honored and restored....if  people  worked  together and  used their  heads   we all could  win
Sorry Trap but the Oneida Indians sided with the colonists. They even travelled to Valley Forge and gave Washington and his troops corn. Look up John Sullivan's Campaign

I live a stone's throw from the Seneca nation....
A good portion of the allegany river runs through their land and 99% of kinzua reservoir (on the NY SIDE) is reservation....
When the spring is just right you can see piles and piles and piles of Seneca pounding the eyes in the river during the closed season... some absolute monster females caught....
NOBODY LIKES IT
LOTS of people get mad over it... however it's all done on their land soooo.. they are able to do whatever they want (and it doesnt bother me because that's just the way it is)
NOW.. WITH THAT BEING SAID......
The Seneca have had their own hatchery going for around 10 years now, and disbursed around 5 million fry (I believe that number is accurate) into the lake last year....
That most definitely helps keep the system going...
All hatchery fish are 100% cultivated from eggs and sperm from fish from kinzua....
Soooo... to me that is a compromise and a GREAT ONE AT THAT
After reading all the posts here I now completely see and understand what's going on here...
Definitely seems like these guys have possibly an alteriror motive but who knows

If some of the people on the left get their way, they would just as soon rip that up too!
