try just south of daytona.. smyrna or new smyrna beach... there is a lot of fishing oppertunities there! not sure on prices of license anymore bu that area has all kinds of places to fish, plus charters and party boats for the day too.

Was watching a show this morning on the Outdoor Life Network. The Florida Fish and Game people listed Lake George on the top of their list for Bass fishing. North and West of De Land. Sould put it within reach and to the West of Daytona Beach.

Be sure to bring back some pictures to post.   :)

I fished there last April on the inland water way with a charter and we take charters from Daytona every spring.  I can't remember the name of the charter in New Smyrna but it was a blast.  If you have never caught a redfish you are missing out.  If you go to New Smyrna (20 -25 minute drive from Daytona) and take A1A south you will come to a state forest area.  There is a boat ramp there and areas to fish from shore.  If you are looking for a charter there are tons of them listed all around.  If you are in Daytona there is a large charter company south of the city near where the gambling boat goes out.  You can get a private charter there or get with one of the group boats.  The group boats are fun but make sure to do the full day charter.  If you do the half day it seems like they go out and then turn around and come in.  They will put the boat over reefs of some kind.  You will catch all kinds of fish.  All of the charters supply the gear you will need.  The group charters are cheap (compared to the private ones).

Hey. I am from Florida, and yes g3 I have been to Okeechobee. This is a great bass fishing lake, but it is HUGE and you definitely need to know where to go. Fishingking; livin4ice is right about the place south of Daytona. It is called Canaveral National Seashore, and is south of New Smyrna Beach, past Turtle Mound. There is great fishing for reds, drum and speckled trout (a Drum, not a real trout) in the lagoon. Use a 7' spinning rod with 8 LB mono and a 20 LB leader. Tie the leader with a surgeons knot. Don't use swivels or hardware except the lure or hook, because seaweed will get tangle up in it. You can use Johnson's gold spoons, D.O.A lures, Zara Spooks (red and white works best) or soft plastic jerk baits. For fly tackle, use streamers, such as Seaducers or Lefty's Deceivers in red and white or yellow and white,  or use crab patterns.  You can also use mullet or shrimp if live bait is your thing. Wading is the best way to fish the lagoon. Wear old tennis shoes and shuffle your feet for stingrays. Across the dunes is the ocean. You can catch bluefish, whiting or snook, depending on time of the year. There is camping around the area; you might want to call ahead. As far as offshore goes, Dolphin (Dorado or Mahi-Mahi, not flipper) doesn't pick up until late May or June. You can catch Cobia within a few hundred yards of the beach. Find a guide and look for Manta Rays to catch the Cobia.  As for Bass fishing, I think the Farm 13/Stick Marsh is the best place; better than Lake George. Lake George has big Bass, but it is bigger and they are harder to find. Good luck and let us know how you did when you get back.
