Boat trailers
« on: Apr 06, 2004, 09:50 PM »
I was wondering what everyone likes.
Bunk or Roller trailers.
Pros and cons.
Not sure what to get.

IMO bunks are much more user friendly and when loading alone, it's alot easier to get the boat centered.

I work at a boat launch and have seen both. The larger boats 20 feet and up seem to do well with the rollers, and most of the smaller boats prefer the bunks. Two things I will mention, if you use bunks on a larger boat/trailer there are plastic "glide sticks" that make the boat slide more easily. If you use rollers....NEVER unhook the bow chain before you back down the ramp. More than once I have seen boats roll right off the trailer short of the water and it ties up the ramp for hours trying to get it back on (plus it really messes up your outdrive) We have photos of a 26 foot Robalo that rolled off its trailer 5 feet short of the water and we had to have a marina send its lift over to pick it back up and put it in the water.
(I use bunks)
