Two Out of Three Ain't Bad
« on: Apr 16, 2023, 03:47 PM »
Today, my goal was to catch fish on each of the three precursor branches (West, Northwest and East) of the Housatonic.

I fell short, but had fun doing it, fishing from 11 AM to 2 PM.

It was partly to mostly cloudy, and about 70 degrees.

My first stop was the West Branch in Pittsfield.

Starting by the Hungerford Street bridge and working my way downstream, I caught seven perch and one rock bass (behind Iron Man Machine Shop and under the Route 20 bridge).

Then I drove to the Greendale Street bridge (where I spent a few minutes chatting with an older fisherman who reported no strikes) and waded down to the big bend where the stream curves back toward Route 20, but didn't have any hits.

Walking back to my car, I drove to my second stop, the Northwest Branch, by Wahconah Avenue, and fished below the dam.

The results there were a carbon copy of my experience on the West Branch - - seven perch and one rock bass.

Finally, I drove to Dalton and fished the East Branch below the Depot Street and Housatonic Street dams, but nothing doing.
