Title: Koontz yesterday, Max today...
Post by: LundProv on Oct 25, 2020, 07:56 PM
Good evening... Had a rare two days with no grandbabysitting opportunities and got caught up around the house yard yesterday morning and headed to Koontz.  IndianaHooker must have caught all the perch as all I could catch were little gills and one little perch.  Beautiful day on the water but I just could not get anything going or figured out.  Tried all my familiar spots and just wasn't happening.  A beautiful bald eagle was circling and buzzing around much to the dismay of black birds and crows.  This morning, I decided to hit Max at day break.  I have never gone to Max at day break on a weekend.  I don't know if there was a tourney or something but there were 17 rigs there this morning and I think I got the last parking spot.  Fairly strong north/northeast wind blowing into the launch and I headed to the opposite shore.  I set up two trolling rods with jig/minnows and caught an even dozen perch and with the third rod, I casted a jerk bait to the deep side of my path and ended up with two largemouth and one smallie.  Not exactly a gangbuster day but just so nice to be out.  I have a 19 year old Lund with a 40 hp 4 stroke and an Ipilot and as I trolled along with the Ipilot, I was noticing the number of big Ranger, Triton and other fiberglass boats with big engines and a pair of Talon's hanging off the back.  Overall a good morning and came home and cleaned the yard and listened to church.  Look forward to fishing the back yard to build my confidence back... Looks like some nice weather coming over the next 10 days - get out and enjoy...

LundPro,
Excellent report! Always enjoy them!  Like you, my 16' Starcraft has a few years on it, 1973 Mariner. I added a front deck (twice)  and 3 swivel seats and replaced floor 3 times but it's a GREAT fishing machine. Have a 2016 30 horse E-Tech which I really like and a 2019 40lb thrust foot control Minn Kota. No got talons!!! ;D I look at them and the cost and sorta shake my head, $2,000.00??? What ever!!! My electric troll holds me fine where I want to be.
Spent Saturday going up and down the ladder, bending over and getting sore as heck, putting my plastic panels on my rear porch thinking all the while, should have gone to Pine and Stone.? Still time. Always a couple of warm days in November when gills will be in 6-8 feet of water in weeds and hungry.
If I can find some water might try shoot a couple of Woodies in the meantime.
Tight lines.

Great report. Glad you got some at maxi. I always struggle there in open water.
As far as the talons, I carry a 12' stick of 1" emt that I stick in the bottom and attach my boat with a tarp strap. Doesn't work in rocky bottoms of course but most places i go that isn't a problem. Its held me in 30+mph winds no problem.
