Q Trip with my son
« on: Jun 08, 2020, 10:26 AM »
My son (8yrs old) and I hit the Q Sunday looking for lakers on the jigs.

The wind was whipping as soon as we launched. Once we got passed Snell there were whitecaps and gusts up to 35mph.

We tried a few secluded spots with some holes that looked conducive to holding fish. Unfortunately there were none to be found. With my son in the boat and the conditions i was hesitant about making the run to some of the spots that have been producing.

I asked him if he wanted to make the ride and his response was "i want to catch fish, lets go". So off we went.

Stopped at our first spot and he had a fish on while the jig was still dropping and had landed the fish before i even had a chance to get a line in the water.

Then his second and third came over the rail. He also had a couple others pop off right at the boat during the "laker death roll".

I managed a couple fish and he landed one more before we called it.

It was a great trip and was awesome to see him jig, hook, and reel in the fish all by himself.

As for the Lady Q, she was not happy.

Great report! Always good to see a young man like that not content to stay home on the computer and willing to rough it a little.

Thanks for sharing!

Way to battle it out, and that’s awesome the little man wanted to “catch fish”!

Wow, that's awesome.  Congrats.  Those whitecaps look daunting though.  Glad your son caught fish and you got back safe.

Caught a fish before you got your line in... I don't remember teaching him that trick! LOL. He will have to start joining us soon...

He actually had two before i got a line in the little cheat lol.

I was showing him how to revive the first one he got while he was dropping down the second time, and almost immediately hooked up again lol
