day off from work = steelhead fishing
« on: Mar 30, 2006, 02:35 PM »
I took the day off from work today and went steelhead fishing.  Caught 6 fish, kept 2 which were deeply hooked and wouldn't have made it otherwise.  Here's a pic of the biggest of the two that I kept....it's around 28  inches.  Released one that was a bit bigger today.  Also saw fish spawning on gravel  and quite a few suckers laying in the pools as well.

It's going OK....I am just taking it slow, but I really want to get out of the place I'm at right now.  I;ve got 3 interviews coming up in the next 2 weeks...one in raleigh-durham NC, one in the Boston area, and one in santa barbera...lots of travelling, hopefully something will pan out.

Nice fish!  None of the places you mentioned have ice, won't you miss the hard water?

Lance, if you really want a bunch of suckers, come up here and do some trout fishing one day and I'll give you all the suckers you'll need for quite some time...the Saranac River is absolutely LOADED with them...big ones too!  Saw a few 4-5 #ers caught the past few days, along with countless numbers of smaller ones.  You pick em up and I'll keep em for ya.  :w00t:

By the way Bob, that's a beauty of a steelie!  Must be nice to get your hands on some STEEL like that!  ;) :o

Good  luck on the interviews ,sierra nevadas have very fishable hard waters especially north of tahoe, stampede, boca resevoir etc.  Mostly trout .I'm sure within a couple of hours drive of boston there is plenty of ice in season ,N.C thats a different story though .

If i have to move awat I'm going to miss alot of things. Upstate NY has lots of great fishing and hunting....that's something I will miss for sure.  My job is really unstable right now, and I'm just looking for something a bit more permanent so I can ease my mind.....because I'm appointed on research grants...I'm not eligible for "funemployment" is they cut me...so I would really like to get something a bit more stable.  I'm sure I'll find some form of fishing no matter where I go and in my spare time I would like to get a little better at fish taxidermy as well.......I'll let you all know how it goes!
