Thanks for the info on the Rudds. I've cought many over the years, we've always called them golden shiners.

Getting the boat out this weekend, hopefully we can tie into some gills or crappies.

Only managed 8 this morning. The water cleared up and the pike moved in.....goodbye gills. A good rain will get them going again. Gonna hit a spot tomorrow with my good friend and fishing mentor, The Old Man. Maybe we can scare up some perch.

All the Rudd were returned unharmed to their unnatural habitat. Danged foreigners anyway. The sunnies will be released in the grease

I just got into fishing for crappie. I usually only fish for perch and walleye. What are some good methods to start with for spring time crappie and perch. I usually throw a worm and a split shot for perch during the summer. Sometimes a splip bobber. I've got some white maribou jigs hoping they produce some. Targeting crappies are new.

Live fathead or niagara on a small buck tail jig under a bobber to start. Artificial baits like Gulp Minnows work well too. There's 10 million kinds of crappie baits on the market. They'll eat just about anything that resembles a minnow if it's presented correctly. Just remember 2 things.

1: Keep them moving either way.

2: Crappies generally attack from below so play with the depth of the jig.

Once you zero in on the technique, it's not so tough to find them. Don't go overboard on line weight either. I use 4 or 6 lb Stren for the most part.

Like I said Trapper, 10 thousand kinds of crappie bait. They all work if you present them correctly.
