Gettting you in the mood for icefishing
« on: Oct 29, 2013, 08:34 PM »
Mounted this bass a few years ago for a client's son:

And here's how I did the ice scene for the glass display:

Plexiglass with black felt underneath on an oak base:

Mixing white crushed foam with silicone caulking to make ice. Less crushed foam makes it iceier. More crushed foam makes it more like snow.

Smearing it on and using a clorox bottle to keep the ice hole free of the icy faux mix.

The tip up was cut off with a bandsaw and hotglued to the hole.

Evirotex was pored it the hole around the tip up to make it look like water.

I love the mount, but one thing that struck me as odd was that the fish looks a little bigger that the hole.

If it were really noticeable it would be wierd, but it is similar to situations all of us have experienced at least once (hopefully more) while ice fishing: a fish that was too big or possibly too big for the hole!

ANYWAY.....it's an awesome mount no matter how you slice it!  :thumbup_smilie:

It may be tbe photograph but the hole would have been big enough for the fish. The diameter was the same as the bottom of a clorox bottle which is 6 1/2 inches.

We use them for bait containers for wax worms etc. around here. The plastic ones they sell with the bait have a tendency for the lids to come off in your pocket.

Of course we don't typically use wax worms on a tip up for bass, but we usually are fishing for panfish while are tip ups are set.

Very unique, I have never really seen a winter mount before. 8)
Way to go taxid, I like it. :thumbup_smilie:

Here are a few suggestions for other winter mounts.
One winter mount would be a cross section of ice and hole with the tip up above the ice and the fish taking off with the
bait below it or alternately another winter mount could have a few perch laying on the ice around an ice hole with a small ice fishing rod near them.

Just a thought, keep up the good work. ;)

The former I've seen at a show and I've done the latter. Thanks for the suggestions.
