Title: Cormorant population increasing in NH?
Post by: Johnnh on Sep 24, 2022, 08:45 AM
I have been seeing an increase in the population of Cormorants in small & medium sized lakes in Merrimack and Hillsborough counties. They are protected so they may present an issue since their primary diet is fish.
Now what?
Any comments?

Only been on water 3 times and spotted cormorants on every occasion.  Not good hopefully them and loons start eating each other. Not only 5 cormorants but 11 loons one pack maybe this is why Tarleton is terrible

They will take over.  Theres a few islands on champlain that are decimated from them.  Sorry to hear about tarleton.  I thought the place fished well albeit a bit tricky to figure out.

I see them a lot on the coast, but not really up in the lakes region. There are 5 loons currently off the place we are staying on the big lake.

Prefer salmon, but I’m an equal opportunity fisherman. 5 green fish this AM, I think the trout were on bugs.
