In the Adirondacks of New York, common practice is trolling a Lake Clear Wabbler with a small streamer or piece of nightcrawler 18" behind it. This is done without any downrigger or weight needed after ice out and until the water warms. During late spring and early summer they will go deeper and can be caught using the same technique but on a downrigger or using trolling weights or keel sinkers. Any small flutter spoon should be just as effective.
