Ricky Bobby AKA Carl Edwards

How bout that finish at Taladaga ???

Wild crashes and an even wilder finish to a great race day. Glad to see the safty cage held up when Brad sent Carl Edwards flying through the air. At that speed with that kinda impact I would have thought it might have broke through and killed some people in the stands but it did its job for the most part with only 7 fans needing some minor medical attention.

I enjoyed the "Ricky Bobby" run across the finish line.

What does everyone else think of the finish and the restricter plate races in general. There was talk about new ways to seperate the feild more so that crashes dont happen as often and all that after the race..

Whats your thoughts?

NASCAR needs to finally admit that after 20+ years, restrictor plates didn't fix the problem it was intended to. 1/3 of the field getting wiped out on lap 7 was the first black eye of the day. The #99 getting into the fence and injuring fans was the 2'nd. Having 1/2 the field damaged or out of the race when the checkers fly is a joke.

Maybe it's time to introduce 6 cylinder engines to Daytona and Dega. Slice the rear 2 cylinders off existing approved manufacturer engines (cheaper than designing new engines from the ground up just for 4 races) and use smaller carbs so that they can't generate much more than 500hp. Then you can eliminate the restrictor plate.

There's also a lot of other handout parts on the cars to make things more "equal" to the field. Time to loosen those regulations up a bit as well and put the vehicle tuning back into the car chiefs hands. These 2 things would allow the cars to spread out and run more like you see at the large 2 mile tracks.

It's also time for NASCAR to take another look at reworking or adding to the roof flap system. While Newman's car assisted with the punt, Carl's car was clearly lifting off the ground in pre-flap style right before that happened.

All the drivers agreed that Brad did nothing wrong. He attempted a last second draft pass, and Carl was just a wee bit too late in blocking. Try to restrict that, and all you have is car drivers, not racers.

Slow fishing is better than no fishing.

Some great points....

They still have to keep racing...RACING! But I would like to see more of a car builder/maufacturer play a bigger role in who has the fastest car. Making them all the same except for the sticker on the grill kinda sucks.
