Finally Got him

(1/5) > >>

Jdawg67:
This past weekend, I was at Chautauqua Lake with Family and friends.  My son (Kenny) and I got a chance to do a little fishing together with a friend of mine, but Kenny is only 4, so a little fishing means 5-10 minutes at a time.  I understand, and know I can't push it too much, and have him not like fishing at all.  We would take the boat out, and fish for a few minutes, and then drive around.  Fish a few more minutes, and go for a swim.  This is how it has to be with him.  So the last night we take the boat out, and do our thing, and he still just isn't really all that interested.  He likes to see the fish that are caught, but doesn't really want to catch any himself.  I know it's not over, but I also know he isn't quite as hooked yet as I want him to be.
We head back to the Dock.  Kenny says he wants to fish while I cover the boat and what not.  Sure Pal Why not, and I put a little piece of worm on the hook.  Kenny is off to do his thing with his trusty snoopy pole in hand.  I tell him he should fish at the end of the dock where it is a little deeper, but he has other ideas.  He wants to go fish from shore next to the dock.  I, knowing the water is only a foot deep at shore, know he probably won't catch anything, and try to urge him to fish out near me while I cover the boat.    He wants to fish on shore, and that is that, but as long as he is happy, that's what matters.
I am in the boat putting the poles up, and the cover, and all of the sudden, I hear screaming of Daddy, Daddy Come Here  I think Oh boy, I am about to have to remove a hook from the boy, and Momma is going to kill me.  To My Surprise, he is standing on shore holding his pole up with a 3” perch dangling from the hook, yelling “I catched one, I catched one.”  I come running down the dock to see a boy as proud as any boy ever was with himself.  “Daddy I catched one all by myself, I'm a big boy!”  At that point, I was a puddle of mush.  He was fishing away all by himself, and The grin on his face will never leave my mind.  I take his fish off, and he tells it good bye.  In the water it goes.  He proceeds to catch about 25 perch, sunfish, and rock bass in the next ten minutes.  He is more proud of each fish than the last.  I just sat next to him, and watched him go to town on those fish.  He called Momma over to watch too, and she couldn't have been more pleased with her boys.
It was the 4Th of July, and the Fireworks were starting, so our fishing had to end.  As I carried him up to the cottage, he put his arms around my neck, and said “Daddy, I'm so happy I catched some fish with you.”  I said me too buddy me too.
At that moment, I knew he was my newest fishing partner.  I finally GOT HIM… HE WAS NOW HOOKED just like his old man.

I know I'll never have to go fishing alone again...

That's pure awesome.  It's funny how the rookies can get on that many fish when the seasoned fishermen are thinking they're not going to catch anything...
