I have found the same to be true on the eastern slope in CO. If the hour around sunset isn't active then after dark will most likely be pretty slim picka. This month has been the best for both size and numbers of both walleye and wiper, I've been trolling and fan casting around the dam. Some nights its all wiper and some night mostly walleye. I've also noticed the evening action is much better during the new moon to half moon phase. I'll post some pics as soon as my roll of film runs out.
