If you lend someone $20 and never see that person again, it was probably worth it.

When it's done, I'll have to learn to play chess. :clapping: :clapping:

Good for firing the neurons in an old man's brain.

I am in no way trying to say anything disparaging towards you, but this blows me away!?!

What made you decide to make a chess set if you didn’t know how to play? Looking for a challenge? Trying to force yourself to learn? I am curious.

It looks great by the way! It’s been fun to read through the build in this thread.

I'll let you know.
They still haven't arrived.
And they still need to turning in the lathe.

Thanks! I'm just kidding. I know how to play. Justhaven't played in many years. And, yes....I'm always trying to learn something new.  Turning the chess set is something new to me on the lathe. Moving on from single freehand turnings to duplication.

There's one Queen, and two Kings to go then 4 knights. They're gonna be fun.

Got quite a bit done on he chess set today. Cut out the trims for the board and glued them up.

Got to work and turned the other Queen and two kings. The Kings have Celtic knots so I thought y'all might like to see the before and after.

The glued up blank.

The blank turned almost completely round with a tenon to remount it in the spigot chuck.

The blank Is remounted in the spigot chuck and marked with my super expensive incredibly complex dividing mechanism. ;D

 The king turned and finished.

They came out pretty darned good....I think.

Here's the set so far.

Tomorrow I'll spend time finishing the board trims then .....the dreaded knights.

Nice work, Bob!   ;D
One more with the one we're after and we'll have two.

Yup....Dremel is in my arsenal.

I think my problem is more with the original design vs what I really want to see. I'm gonna pick up another piece of stock tomorrow and see what I can develop. The set doesn't lend itself to a "Horse" but more of an abstraction.

My son (the family artist) stopped over for some cards, beers and pickles today. We came up with a few ideas. He's anxious to challenge the old man to some chess ;D

I'm in no hurry.

Talent for sure.    Next winter make another set and raffle it off and see how much you get for a “real” hand turned set.

I have three more sets on my list. One for my Son. One for my Grandson and one for my wall. I'll be exploring other designs I have in mind. Then it's on to other things.
