Haven't noticed any. Over the years I haven't seen many except if a BASS contest is going on...h2l

First day on the lake this year. Water temp 57* and got up to 62* by 4PM. Eight hits, 5 walleyes. 16 to 18 1/2 inches. Black jig, tight to bottom. Didn't mark any of the ones I caught and not more than 1 from any one spot. The lake will be a ZOO the rest of the weekend. Lots of boats out today....h2l

Hey h2l - -  any tips for a newbie to Great Sacandaga on where to hit some walleyes this time of year?  My dad and I just put a boat up at Cranberry Cove marina, and I have only ever ice fished the lake.   I got some tips from a friend on some good pike spots, but any tips on some good walleye spots and some lure selection would be appreciated.  Not looking for your secret spots, just some general areas  ;D

Thanks!

Caught eyes from the north to the south end.  Id focus more on watching your graph. Jig when their on bottom n troll when they suspend.

I went all over the south end on Sunday, I didn't mark anything on chart, a few random here and there.  I'm still getting used to reading the fish finder and knowing where to go.  Deep water? drop offs or off points?  Around islands?   I've never fished for walleyes, or done much lake fishing really.  This is my first boat.  I'm a flyfisherman, river and stream fishing is all I've ever done.

Heading out Thursday, was going to head up to Bachelorville bridge and work in that area.

Jaconwall, early season can be tough. The fish are spread out and can be on bottom, deep, shallow ,etc.. Last week there were mayfly's hatching so I fished some mud flats. Once the walleyes state to bunch up and get onto baitfish it becomes somewhat easier to locate them and those areas you tried may get better. (drop off, points, humps) Good luck....h2l

Thanks, I appreciate it!  I'm hoping that as the season progresses so will the fishing!  Just need to spend more time on the water learning the lake and how to use the humminbird!

Something that might help. Drop a waypoint every time you catch a walleye. Youll notice some areas will hold fish during different times of the year. When you look back at ur waypts u can see what areas u did well in the following year in the time frame.

I started a fishing log last year after a few years of putting it off. Time will tell on that. Expect good outcome.

I started doing a log book back in the late 60's. Drew maps of "hot" spots by lining up a camp and hill one way, something else another, etc. Then came the "green box" and then I knew what was down there. Still have the log book. It puts a smile on my face whenever I read it.

Back in the 50's I worked at my uncle's marina on Sacandaga. During the Summer 4 or 5 nights a week a man and his father would anchor their Chris Craft and fish for walleyes and fish until just after dark. They always caught fish. They were on a ridge that runs between a point and a hump. No GPS, no fish finder only a split shot and a minnow and I am sure they saw some great sunsets.....h2l

My daughter and I fished yesterday. I had ONE hit in 36 fow. Marked very few fish. Tried 13 to 40 feet of water. The pods of baitfish from Tuesday were gone. Water temp warmed from low 60's to 66* during the day. Two skunks in 1 week, I may have to take up BASS fishing....h2l
