Fished all day yesterday, until 2pm at least and it got super windy.

Is the lake always so choppy, or was it just the warm front coming in?  Last summer we were out July/August and it was not so choppy all the time....

Anyway, we finally caught a fish, my son caught a nice 18" smallie up at the Northville bridge, but that was it.

Tried jigging minnows, trolling worm harnesses with crawlers, leeches, minnows in 20-25 feet water.

I think we marked some fish, but I am still trying to figure out the Humminbird and when an arch is a fish, and when its not.   I was using the "Fish ID" but stopped because I found it annoying and it would pick up a split shot or minnow as a "fish".

If you see a big red/yellow arch is that always a fish, or could it be a rock, etc.?  I have been using 2D sonor and down imaging split screen, and when I saw a large arch, it shows on the DI as a small vertical line.

Hopefully the bite starts to pick up!!

It has been a slow start this year for sure.

Can anyone confirm if the installed the launch dock at Day yet?  Two weeks ago they still weren’t in. Had to detour because of the wind. Like launching at Day though. Thanks

Choppy is better than flat. Dont ever use fish id. How fast were u pulling harness? Try .8-1.0mph. Lot of ppl pull em too fast. Arch not attached to bottom is fish. Arch on bottom u need to look at di. Weeds will be a vertical line. Fish will be a dot.

Thanks bauls25 for the tips.

I was trolling right around that range,  maybe A bit faster at times.  I’ll take some screenshots tomorrow to share.

I’m somewhat regretting not getting a side imaging  unit ,  have some buyers remorse.

Going out tomorrow, going to try trolling again with worm harness and leeches/worms.  Going to try around vanderburg point

Morning - - wife and I went out Sunday AM.  Finally! Caught a walleye, although it was a small 15" or so, but it felt good to finally catch one.  Trolling a spinner with a leech around scout island.  That was it, besides a bass that we caught over by Cranberry Creek.

I am still not marking many fish either, slow rolling through 20-25 feet of water and seeing just nothing.

Keep at it!

Last weekend caught first keeper @ 16" night time just after sunset. Not in usual spot for the time of year. Water level still a little high. Tried new spot and netted 13.5" perch. Wind shifted from the west to blowing south. Way off normal drift and netted 19" Walleye. Tried several more drifts but nothing of interest. I normally drift fish with 1/4 oz - 3/8 oz bottom bouncers. Use trout worms from walmart or dillies and floating jigs. Looking forward to next weekend on call this one. As far as fishing around Scout Island I found if you drift from south of Trap Islands in deeper water you have better chance of hooking up. Good Luck....

Kim, I agree, just not finding the walleyes in any of my usual spots. It has been tough fishing so far, at least for me. Things should start to get better. Water temp has been up and down for the last month. Not seeing any bait fish at the launch and not many bait balls out in the lake. End of June is when the fishing usually picks up and only gets better after that. Glad you were able to get out and get a few....h2l
