Trip West 2022
« on: Sep 23, 2022, 11:45 AM »
For our annual anniversary trip, my wife and I spent a week in the Black Hills of South Dakota with a bonus 3 days in southeastern Wyoming. In Wyoming, we explored the Snowy Range in Medicine Bow National Forest where I was able to hike and cast a fly into some waters with beautiful scenery.  In SD, we hit all the big attractions – Custer State Park, MT Rushmore, and the Badlands. We also spent 3 days in Deadwood, hitting Devil’s Tower back in WY, and catching the Marshall Tucker Band in concert in town at the annual Deadwood Jam.  I was able to catch brown, brook, rainbows and cutthroat on the trip and the wildlife viewing was fun. The area we travelled is diverse with mountain ranges to vast prairies that seems to go on forever. It’s big cattle country.  Here’s just a few of the many photos we took along the way.

That’s an awesome trip, thanks for sharing.

My wife mustn’t learn of this trip. I volunteered us to do fall cleanup at a camp for children with life threatening illnesses on the day of our anniversary!

Thanks. We were really lucky with the weather having just missed the heat wave. On our first morning in Laramie, it was a crisp 31 degrees, with frost that helped created the "fog bow" I took a photo of.

Thanks for sharing your trip. Snowy Mountains are beautiful area. On my trip it snowed in August, having made much the same trip but going all the way to Yellowstone, the Tetons , Lake Tahoe, and finally San  Francisco.

Looks like a fun trip. Never fished out there but have turkey hunted in western Nebraska, took a day and drove up to South Dakota to explore the same spots. Your post makes me want to go back.
