Nice family trip there Bartman and it won't be long and the boys will be back to school :-\  Tell the oldest one he needs to SMILE some more when he's catching those big pike :D

Thanks everyone.

Yeah, he's been playing a lot of Texas Hold'em lately and that's his poker face. We'll try for some smiles next time.  At least he should be smiling in the Jiffy Pop shot, it's as much fun to make as it is to eat.

August started well- was out with Smiley for an hour last evening and we got some nice walleyes including this one. (Don't tell me, I should be smiling ;D)

Beauty of an 'eye Bart. What was the length on that big girl?

I don't hear the walleye guys talking about it on here much, but they have been on big time the past few weeks with this hot weather.

Here's some August pics. The month started out with the rivers a bit high but they came down nicely mid-month which allowed us to break out the topwaters and flies in the yak and canoe. My crayfish tie didn't last long - we had several 40 fish evenings (with some bonus eyes) before we headed to North Carolina

On our way to the outer Banks of NC we stopped at the Chesepeake Bay Bridge-tunnel pull-off for a pit stop. Take a look at these signs.  The guy in the white T-shirt has a case of rolling rock on his wagon. So much for the first sign

Take a look at this pic. These 15 rods belong to one guy. So much for the second sign

We hit the pier one day on the outer banks at sunrise. The guy in the background (rod high) is fighting a 50 pound cobia. He fought it for 30 minutes and then it headed down the pier toward the "tourist" fishing area ::). Three tourists wouldn't move their poles so the cobia takes a right turn and wraps the line around the piling - SNAP!  Pier's aren't my thing but they certainly have some entertainment value.

Here's MR cobia before departing for deep water

We also hit the sand in my brother-inlaw's 1973 Ford Bronco, cruising the shore for rising bluefish.

And we actually caught a wide variety of sea creatures

Finally, here's the same pier (compliments of the Avalon Pier's web cam) this evening  as Tropical Storm Ernesto hits NC. (Glad we're back home in NY)

That's it for August.  Good luck to all this Labor Day weekend!

Yes, Great pictures and story. I love the Outer Banks, hope to make it down next summer.
Nice looking smallies and walleye on the eye, looks like a blast.
We're going to have to find some time to hit the river this fall. What kind of vaction time do you have? or do we need to plan an after work/evening trip.  ;D

Bartman , awsome crayfish fly pattern.  I would love to get my hands on a few of them for the fly box!
Oh Lord,
There he is.
Feels like a big one.
Please don’t let me lose him.
I’ve never caught one this big before.
I’ll try not to horse him.
And if I land him I promise to release him
And make a graphite replica...
If my wife says it’s okay.
Thank you for the Rapalas.
Amen.

Nice trip there Bartman.  You are without a doubt the most "versatile" fisherman on this or any site!!  You're jigging, flyfishing, ocean fishing, all kinds of fishing :D

Thanks Slip. My philosophy has always been that if one species isn't biting, another one usually is.

Send me a pm with your address and I'll be glad to whip  you up a few

Kappy, we usually stay in the Nags Head/Kitty Hawk area. It's a nice place but unfortunatley, the big franchises have recently found it and I  fear they'll drive out the small bars/eating establishments which give the OBX it's unique character.  Per your request here's a few more. First, my view every morning from our deck. Second, another good reason to hit the OBX, nice golf courses. I got beat by my oldest on the last hole as I three putted for bogey  >:(

Camo- sent you a PM.
